In my last report I was concerned with slush on thin ice, but with temperatures 10 degrees during the day and 6 to 8 below zero the lakes are making ice nicely.

For anyone wanting to head on ice, Saturday to be partly sunny and temps up to 21 degrees. Winds only 10 mph. Very cold at night again.

The walleyes are biting good in 3 to 6 feet of water on many lakes. So are the perch with occasional decent northern pike action. Try Lac Vieux Desert if you have the chance the bite is on.

Tip ups with shiners and medium sucker minnows are working well. Teardrop jigs and waxies or spikes seem to be getting most of the perch.

Be careful always checking the ice in front of you with a spud and always use the buddy system and don't fish alone on early ice.

Good luck, and don't forget our fishing information line at 1-866-367-2248.
