Mother Nature just can’t make up her mind as to make it warm and wet here in Eagle River or finally let late fall come to the north Country. The water temperatures are 41 to 46 degrees depending on the lake you are on. The fall transition is complete on all the area lakes.

Muskie action is average to good some days with the fish sliding deeper. We have been boating 2 to 5 muskies a day. Fish outside weed edges at the first break out to 12 feet on the Eagle River Chain and dark water lakes. On sunny days, fish to out to 25 feet of water. Lately the secondary break has been the ticket. Fuzzy Duzzits, jerkbaits, crankbaits, Bulldawgs, and Suzy Suckers are taking fish. Suckers are the No.1 producer on most days, medium suckers are out producing the large ”wristbreakers” but that could change with the strong cold front coming this Friday night.
Some walleye are still near green weeds in 5 to 8 feet on the Eagle River Chain as well as sliding down the break to 25 feet or more. North Twin has walleye in 25 to 36 feet. A jig and an XL fathead are doing the job. Walleyes have been a good bite recently in the area. Northern are hanging outside of weed edges. Use a small sucker on a bobber for your best action. Little crankbaits and jerkbaits will also work.
Perch are schooled up in the same areas as walleye, and hitting crappie minnows. Some of the larger perch will take your fathead minnow on a jig.
There are not many fisherman after bluegill at this time due to the weather, but if you are, use a half of nightcrawler(if you can still find them) or waxies. Crappies are locating over deep brush piles, cribs and at the hard bottom/mudline on many lakes. Fish deep water at least 18 to 30 feet. These fish are best caught on a “corkie” rig with light line and crappie minnow. On clear lakes some crappie are still at the weed edges especially around coontail in 12 to 16 feet.

Remember, there is no such thing as a bad day on the water. Good Luck.
