Muskie fishing in the Eagle River and Three Lakes area has been totally awesome! The weather has been uncomfortable at times but the muskies have been biting. Wind, Rain, sleet or snow….you need to be on the water at all times if you want to bag a fall bruiser. This last weekend was no exception as we had excellent action during tough, cold conditions. The water temps have dropped very quickly, with surface temps ranging from 45 to 52 degrees, and green weed structure is still in peak shape. Don’t overlook shallow weed structure this fall if the weeds are green, as muskies will hold shallow all the way until ice-up.

Sunday was an exceptional day on the water as we caught 5 muskies measuring 35, 35, 36, 37 and a monster 50 INCHER to top things off! Congratulations Jim on catching and releasing your biggest muskie! Fish were reacting to both artificial lures and suckers and the action was hot all day. The key to our success was working slow and playing the finesse game. Find the green weeds in areas where the wind has been blowing and you should find hungry muskies that are fattening up for the winter months.

This afternoon we again found muskies active in shallow weed cover hitting both artificial lures and suckers. We lost a nice muskie twice on a sucker after she followed a lure to the boat and then shortly after, got a 34 incher on a jerkbait. The current weather pattern has the muskies in a feeding frenzy right now so get out there and start doing some “heavy-lifting!”

Good luck and fish hard!
