The fishing in the Eagle River has picked up very nicely, and most species
are just now starting to change to their fall patterns and locations.
Walleye are hitting in the Eagle River area * and there are some bigger fish
being caught. Fish 10 to 25 feet over mid-lake humps and break edges. Use
a jig and minnow. Afternoon/evening bite is best.
Northern are still going strong in the Eagle River area. Fish 10 feet of
water or less in and around weeds. Use a bass style spinner bait, or a
Husky Jerk in a perch or minnow pattern.
Largemouth bass (especially the bigger fish) have started moving away from
structure and are locating in heavy weeds in the Eagle River area. Fish 10
feet of water or less. Use a Scum Frog, Bass Rat, lizard, or a weedless
Texas Rig setup with a plastic word. Very good action.
Panfish in the Eagle River area are still pretty-much hanging together.
Fish 15 feet of water or less in or areas relating to weeds. Crappies are
suspending, perch near the bottom, and bluegills anywhere in between. Use a
crappie minnow under a slip bobber or a Mini Mite. Good to excellent
action.
Muskie are putting on a good bite in the Eagle River area. Concentrate on 15
feet of water or less outside of weed edges. A little bit of everything is
working, including bucktails, crankbaits and topwaters. Use smaller baits
and experiment with retrieve speed. Bright colors and vibration are
important considerations. Chartreuse seems to be a good color. Black,
orange, white and yellow are other colors to considers and work fine on the
Eagle River Chain of 28 Lakes (largest freshwater chain of lakes in the
world). All day bite ,with early morning and evening hours best.
Smallmouth bass are hitting in 10 to 20 feet of water off of break edges in
the Eagle River area. Use a 3 to 4 inch tube, a Senko, rigged whacky, or a
jig and a minnow. Decent action.
