With water temps in the 70s, fish are putting on a consistent bite
in the Eagle River area.

Northern action in the Eagle River area is very good to excellent. Fish ten
feet of water or less, in and around weeds. Use a bass style spinner bait,
or a Husky Jerk in a minnow or perch pattern.

Muskie are locating in 15 feet of water or less in and around weeds in the
Eagle River area. Small baits are working, including bucktails, and Mepps
Giant Killers. For topwater success, use a Suick Night Walker or Bucher Top
Raider. Best action is from afternoon into the evening hours. Some things
to note: The Eagle River Chain of 28 lakes (largest freshwater chain of
lakes in the world) has a pea soup color to it due to an annual algae bloom.
It happens every year, and then is gone. Savvy muskie hunters know it's no
big deal. Color and vibration are key when working "pea soup" water. These
conditions usually result in many boatside or figure 8 hits from muskie.
The murky water is actually another form of cover, and the muskies use it,
coming in closer than they might usually do under clearer water conditions.
Bait colors worth trying are chartreuse, orange, white, black, or yellow- -
on bucktails, surface baits, and even minnow/crank baits.

Walleye are providing good action in the Eagle River area. Fish 10 to 25
feet of water, concentrating on break edges and mud flats, just outside of
break edges. Use a jig and a minnow, leech or crawler.

Smallmouth bass in the Eagle River area are locating in 10 to 25 feet of
water off of break edges. Use a 3 or 4 inch tube, a Senko rigged whacky,
or a jig and a leech.

Eagle River area largemouths are in 10 feet of water or less, holding tight
to structure like docks, downed trees, brush piles or lily pads. Use a
surface bait like a rat, lizard or frog, or a Texas rig with a plastic worm.

Panfish (crappies, bluegills and perch) are still pretty-much hanging
together in the Eagle River area. Fish 15 feet of water or less, in and
around weeds. Use a crappie minnow, or chunk of crawler under a slip
bobber, or try a Mini Mite or Beetle Spin. The perch will hug the bottom,
with the crappies and bluegills moving up and down the water column.

Good luck to all
