I stopped at Bayview just after 7 a.m. to buy some 2" minnows. Chris is generous with minnows and that's a good thing. We used every one we bought until we ran out. Crawlers were a suitable back-up, but the fish responded better to minnows.

We took home 12 nice perch with five big humpbacks among them. Caught and released were three pike (30" and fat was the largest), and I lost track of how many smallmouth bass we caught. Four walleyes came aboard (two were keepers at 15" and 22"). We had two line breakers (probably pike), and almost no gobies. Best depth was nine to thirteen feet along the weed edge. Slip float rigs, light jigs, and split shot and plain hook rigs were best.

We fished from 7:30 a.m. until noon. During the morning we had fish jumping all around us for about the first two hours - smallmouths from what we could
see. I tried several surface baits without success.

A friend trolled past and reported taking a limit of 'eyes from 18" to 22" while pulling harnesses behind bottom bouncers very slow.
