Last night guided out on the chip out of treelands resort. Had two fish on one on a topper stopper and another on a topraider. I missed the one on the top raider, I was looking at the locator when it hit, and missed it. I am really starting to notice a pattern with me on topwater hits, I am not paying attention, and I don't get them! The other My client Tyler Dean lost, who is 12 years old, and is the only one who didn't take a break from casting all day, and in the evning, had a fish eat his topper stopper, he set the hook like a champ and was fighting it perfectly, and them some how, that I don't understand, the fish came off. I felt really bad for him, he worked his ass off, and the fish some how came off, after he did everything perfect!
Today, was back out on the chip, had two lazy follows in the morning, one on a topraider, and the other on a cowgirl, they were about 40 and 45 inches. Then in the afternoon, my client says, I got a fish coming, oh never mind it is just weeds, which he had a pile of weeds on his cowgirl, then behind the weeds was a fish coming in hot, he went about twice around on a figure 8 and the fish hit, and gave about 3 head shakes and it was in the net. Probably the shortest fight ever musky fishing. when the fish was coming in I had my bait in, and I started to inch to the net, then when it hit, I just scooped it up. Just wanted to make sure I got it in the boat. It was also my clients biggest fish, it was a thick 46 inches.
Good luck, and post any reports that you might have.
