Two of us fished Sunday morning along weed edges between Gladstone and Escanaba. We did not have a lot of time, and we anchored as soon as we started getting some hits. Jigging a piece of crawler on a 1/16 ounce jig was best. We caught lots of small perch, but seven of them were very chunky "humpbacks" including one I had to net because I didn't think I could lift it out of the water with the four pound test I used on an ultra-lite rod. Best depths were six to ten feet, but I landed one big perch from twenty feet. Several smallmouth bass provided variety.
