Thread: Down sizing?

    Default Down sizing?

After thinking about my last post I wanted to throw this out. As I said I like to make a few quick swim bait casts on a spot before going more traditional. I have read two recent musky articles that talk about down sizing baits (5-6 inch swim baits, 5 inch walk the dog surface baits). What do you guys think about down sizing?

I think the time for downsizing is behind us now. The fish are starting to go after larger baits now. That being said, all of June can be good for smaller baits. Most of the muskies caught that are really large in June are either on accident by a walleye angler or by traditional muskie baits. I'd say you have a fifty/fifty shot at catching one on a large bait VS. a small one. Two weeks ago I would have said you have a better shot at catching one on a small bait though.
