    Default Flowage Report For 3/19

Fished the main river channel near Big Timber Island on the east side last saturday. Caught a limit of crappies in about six hours. Fish were in about 23 feet of water but they all were 5 to 7 feet off the bottom. We started out doing well on minnows but as the afternoon went on they stopped hitting them. I would see them on the vex but could not catch them. I tried down sizing to a rocker jig and a waxie and started catching nearly every fish that appeared on the graph. The afternoon bite was definitely better than the morning. We got on the ice in moores bay with the sled. There was a strong crust on top about 2 inches of water in the morning but the ride back in the afternoon was getting pretty wet. I wonder what all this snow then cold will do to the ice conditions. Here is a pic of my fishing buddy with some of our catch!

    Default Good fishing

    Hi Carl,

Thanks for that report. Sounds like a successfull trip. Good job on experimenting and scaling down to get the bite going again. I always think of that as the fun part of it, when you try something different after the bite slows. It's fun to get them going again.

We'll see how the ice conditions turn out after this snow storm. Probably will lead to a lot of slush. Now it's going to get cold for a number of days, but the snow will insulate the slush.

If you have some pictures, post them. Fish pictures are always welcome here. Good luck on your next trip Carl.

Thanks Tom, not sure if we'll get back up this weekend or not. I'm already looking forward to finding those big bluegills next winter. I know they are there, just need to find where they go.

    Hi Carl,

Thanks for the pic. Looks like your fishing buddy was having a good time. Good to see you taking your kids fishing. I have a Grand child due to be born in June. I can't wait to start teaching her/him how to fish.

With the Maple syrup process I'm in, I don't know if I'll have time to do any fishing for awhile. It looks like we got just enough snow to screw up the lakes. If I get time, I'm going to try to get out to see for myself. If I do, I'll report.
