    Default Flowage Report 3/5/11

Fished the flowage on Sat. We got on with the snowmobile at Skilly's(formerly Middlestads) on the east side. Started out in the bay just before the entrance to the nursery where I had done well in the fall. There was one permanent shack there so we went near it. Drilled holes in about 16 feet and got set up. I put the vex in the water and as I watched my orange rocker tipped with a waxie get about three feet from the bottom, the bottom came up to meet it and out came a nice crappie. Many times this has not been a good start for me as sometimes this is the last fish I catch. We fished there for another hour or so and got one more nice crappie and three so-so bluegills. In the meantime another guy arrived on a four wheeler and said he had a limit of big bluegills and crappies there three days ago. We then moved to a large sunken brushpile near pork barrel island. While we were setting up my 6 year old son managed to put his leg in a hole right up to the knee. This was the beginning of the end of that day. We fished for 20 more minutes seeing alot of non-biters on the graph and catching one small perch. The rest of the afternoon was spent in the hot tub at the hotel in town. Going to try to get back up by myself for some real fishing.

    Hi Carl,

Thanks for the report. Fishing has been a real roller coaster ride this winter. At least you did catch some fish. Hope your son is ok. I've heard of kids breaking their legs when they stepped in a ice hole. I saw a report earlier this year of that happening. You'll have to let him drive the boat for a little bit this summer to make it up to him.

Another snow storm is supposed to move in sometime this week. Hopefully it won't make access impossible on the lakes again. Quess I'll have to bring my shovel. Now it's Perch time. There are some places I really want to fish for Perch before the ice goes out. Good luck on your next trip to the Flowage. Let us know how you do.

    Default Flowage Report

Finally got out again on the flowage and had average fishing. Couple crappies, couple gills, and small perch. Nothing to write home about. CAUTION!! saw open water on crane creek. Yicks, guess thats why there isnt a snowmobile trail thru there.

    Good Fishing all.

Tanks for the report Josh. Glad you didn't go for a swim. On the other thread, a guy wants to know about ice conditions in the south east part of the Flowage. I know you have spent a lot of time on the Big Chip ice fishing this winter and was wondering if you had any advice for the guy. If so, maybe you could answer his thread. Thanks.
