    Default Sunglass Care

FYI.........After getting my new and overpriced sunglasses, I wanted to make sure I knew the best way of cleaning them because I have not had real glass lenses in over 15 years. So I stop by the eye care center and asked a few questions...........

I was told to NEVER use any type of paper products (napkins, tissue, pre-moistened lens cleaners) due to scratching. The best method of cleaning (and the exact way they clean theirs) is by purchasing a micro-fiber cloth (3.00) and a bottle of lens cleaner (1.97). If you purchase the lens cleaner from the WalMart Eye Care Center, they will refill the lens cleaner for as long as you own the bottle.

They point they kept stressing was to moisten the glass prior to rubbing the micro-fiber cloth on the lens surface.

After lots of research, I went with the Costa 580's with mirrored Green lenses. The Brine's fit my head perfectly. The more I sweat, the tighter the frames stick to my nose/ears since they have that special rubber lining coating. I can see through the water MUCH better now.

I bought them (new) on Ebay for 80.00 dollars under retail.

    Red,
Sorry to dredge up such an old post, but I found it relevant to my situation. I had a pair of Harpoons with 580 Amber lenses. They recently went AWOL and I'm looking to replace them. I really liked the amber lenses for everything BUT sight fishing and I loved the way the frames fit my head. The amber were great for driving and everyday use, but way too dark for fishing.

My question is now that you've had the green mirror lenses for almost a year are you happy with them and (not considering cost) would you buy them again if you lost yours?

    Thanks,
    Mike

These glasses are the best I have ever had. I hear great things about the OceanWaves too but have never tried them. I am not even sure that when you get to a certain level, the human eye can even detects the minute differences in the "elite" brands. I think the light mirroring on these 580's make a big difference the amount of light that passes through.

As of now, these are the glasses I will continue to wear forever. Ebay has some great deals on them. Just be sure to watch for the number 580 on them. You will see several with a lesser number on them but are 60-110 dollars cheaper. Just an FYI.

They sure do... $164 was the best I could find for the 580's in the harpoon style. That's 30% less than CDM website.
    Thanks for your input!

I have the Brine's and like that style. I might look at a style with more of a "wrap around" feature to it next time.

    Happy Hunting.

I have the Permit Frames. These frames are big and are somewhat wrap around. I chose the 580 in the copper. I liked them the best after trying out every frame and every lens while at the beach. I really couldn't tell much of a difference between the copper and the green mirror.

Mike - we must be on the same page as I was just thinking about that old post and asking Red the same question as I am looking for another pair myself. I have several pairs of glasses...CDM, Oakley, Kaenon...and the ones I find grabbing most of the time are the Kaenon's with copper lenses. Looks like the CDM green mirrors are going to get the nod for my next pair.

One of the nicest things about the CDM's is that they have the no-slip gripping surface at the contact points around ears and nose. I do not have 1 scratch on mine after 10 months or so because I am using the microfiber cloth and solution to clean them. Makes a huge difference.

I have a client who turned me onto the CDM's and we joke about how it is like seeing things in 3D when you put them on. Just a great pair of glasses. Period.

    Red,

I'm pretty sure you had the H3O's at some point too, right? I have those now and was curious as to how much better the CDM's are compared to them.

I fished with several guys with H30's and similar types last year. There were several times that I could see follows and they could not and never picked up the fish until it had already flashed off. I have extremely sensitive eyes so I think the mirrored aspect of these glasses may help me more than most fellows.

I am not saying you will be the bionic man wearing those glasses, but they are noticeably better than the H30's. A big enough difference to justify dropping big money on them, that is a question for each individual guy, I suppose.

Damn, I sure could use that bionic man trait, especially casting all day. LOL Seriously, thanks for the info. I've heard and read great things about those glasses (CDM's) and have been thinkin of getting a pair. I'm still in the research stage and will check e-bay for any deals. So far, it seems that the flies get attacked anywhere from 0-10' from the boat and anything that can help me see that area will be tremendous help.

Ok, so I'm more of a buyer than a shopper. Found a good deal on e-bay for CDM Permit 580's. As I'm convinced that Musky slime is now part of my bloodstream I figure its a worthwhile investment. And heck if they even help me see an extra Musky or two, I'll consider them well worth the investment. LOL I'll give a bit of a review once I receive them and get a chance to try them out.

My green mirror harpoons came in a few days ago and they're waaaay better than the amber lens which were just too dark. I went straight down to the local farm pond and was watching some nice largemouths cruise around the pond.
    Very happy so far.

For those who have tried on different pairs of CDM, i have a question.
Do they all fit the same and its a matter of style? Or are they all different fitting?

My question might be vague and generic. I need to get a new pair of glasses, and with the way my up comin weeks are i am not sure if i can find a retailer to try a few pairs on, sooo if someone has tried a few pairs on and they all fit the same then (to me) it lessens the need to find a retailer to try on pairs, which i do not have time to do.

It is weird how this post got back up just as i got fed up with my current glasses. Thanks on the Ebay tip Red.

After talking to the product specialist prior to purchasing my CDM's, she gave me some great info. Each style is groomed to fit different sized and shaped heads. Frame width, nose bridge width and eye coverage were the 3 areas of measurement. I gave her specifics about my melon head syndrome from which I suffer and she recommended 2 or 3 different styles. I opted for the Brine's mainly due to the vent holes on the outside edges of the frames to cut down on lens fogging problems. In hindsight, I probabaly would have gone with a style that had a little more eye coverage, I think. I do love the Brine's but it was hard for me to find a dealer so I could try each style before purchasing. The original pair I ordered were way too big and bulky (from Ebay) and were sent back but the seller was none to happy when I told him I would give him negative feedback unless he allowed me to return them. I do play dirty at times.

I was surprised at how many optometrists there were who carry CDM's. You guys who live near civilization will be able to find a dealer near you pretty easily. Just go to the site and either do a search or just call the Florida headquarters and get a list of dealers.

    Good Luck.

I just got a pair of the CDM's in the mail today. The Permit style seems like its exactly what I was lookin for in terms of fit. I'll get em on the water this weekend and see what they are like during a full day of fishing.

I've had a few weeks to give the CDM's a good try and I am super impressed. The fit of the Permit frames is fantastic and I have been able to see fish quite a ways out compared to my older glasses. This has definitely helped me make adjustments to my retrieve to get the fish more interested. Now I just need to find something that will help me make a better hook set!!! LMAO

    Jay,

Do the Permits feel too heavy after fishing all day?? The frames that are standard with your glasses are much thicker than mine.

    Red,

Not at all. They end up being the last piece of equipment I end up packin away at the end of the day mainly because I forget I have them on. Once I snug the lanyards on them at the beginning of the day, I forget they are on unless I get some water droplets on them. Also keep in mind that my only point of reference before the CDM's are the H3O's. I also found those to be quality sunglasses. But, the CDM's are a step above IMO. I really think the fit of the Permit style is great in that it doesn't really let stray light get in from the sides or bottoms of the frame.

Ok, let me throw this out. It could be just that I happened to be in the right places at the right time, or whatever. But I've seen more Musky in the last month then I probably saw thru half of last year. The thing is that quite a few were "sunning" themselves, possibly recovering from the spawn or whatever. The point being that I have not seen that over the last couple of years. And the fish that I have got to strike or follow, I've also seen most of them from a ways out.

Once again, not sure how much of this can be attributed just to the glasses, but I'm sold!! As they say, a lot of Musky fishing is about confidence and I'm diggin the fact that I believe that I have a great chance of seeing these fish close to the boat. Like I said, my next issue is gettin used to settin the hook on these beasts with the Flyrod!!

Along with the new Revo Toro reel I bought came an offer for a free pair of Wiley X sunglasses. The choices are the P-17 (emerald mirror /amber tint lens ) or the Zak ( blue mirror polarized lens). Has anyone ever used any of these glasses before and what would be a better choice for fishing the river?

I have never used them or heard much about them but if one choice is for polarized and the other is not, I would go with the polarized all the way regardless of where I was fishing. JMO
