Mike and fellow muskie hunters-

Pardon the off-topic intrusion, but just wanted to remind muskie hunters on the different discussion boards to be very careful about lake hopping in the Bemidji area. As many of you know, there has been an explosion in the invasive zebra mussel population in Mille Lacs, which see as many as 100,000 boat launchings per year. This is a very dire situation that has changed the ecology of Mille Lacs forever, and there are certain to be negative impacts on the muskie food chain. Unfortunately, zebra mussel infestation is now only 2 h trailer ride away from Lake Bemidji, Cass Lake, Plantaganet, etc-some of the best muskie waters in North America. Thankfully, these gems have remained free of milfoil and zebra mussels; but, the threat grows each year

I know muskie fishermen in general are often the most responsible and best informed people on the water, but please pass the word to other anglers. A boat/trailer that goes in Mille Lacs or other infested waters should be weed free and dried for at least 5 days before entering uninfested water. Its the only way to ensure no mussel larvae or milfoil carryover. Don't do it any other way; its simply not worth it.

Thanks and good luck chasing these amazing fish.
