    Default Musky Report 6/22

We had an excellent morning of muskie fishing here in the Eagle River area today. Storm clouds and overall dark conditions have moved lots of muskies into shallow cover and they are active! Water temps on your medium sized lakes of 300 to 600 acres are ranging from 74-77 degrees and winds are currently out of the E-SE at 5 mph. This morning I had the pleasure of guiding Dewey to his first muskie and he wasn’t done after that. He caught 3 measuring 39, 37.5 and 31 inches long and the 37.5 had a very impressive girth for her size. We also had 5 other fish up to the boat following and they all seemed very active. We were fishing shallow weed flats in the 6 to 14 foot range and had good action on gliders and soft plastic swim baits. Interestingly we found that after the cloud cover vanished and a slight wind switch, the muskies were all over the glider instead of the plastic swim bait –so be observant and watch for changes in attitude out of these fish as the water temps warm. With overcast conditions check the shallow weed flats first for active fish and then work your way out deeper if the fish seem lazy or unresponsive. No matter what the conditions, fishing deep is a sure bet to catch fish as I believe that these fish are less effected by temperature changes and also receive less fishing pressure.

    Good luck,
