    Default Take a Kid Fishing

It's great to see how many youngsters get up here fishing with their families. I don't think there are too many better ways that you can spend time with a youngster than out in the boat.

I can still remember many of the trips we took to Lake of the Woods as a family when I was growing up in Saskatchewan. The times I spent in the boat with my Dad, Uncles, Grandparents, etc will be memories I have for the rest of my life. I remember lots of fish, shore lunches, water skiing, tubing and blueberries. I have vivid memories of times I slipped into the lake while washing shore lunch dishes, cutting myself with a fillet knife trying to clean fish and steering the tiller motor even though i had no idea where we were until we could see mainland shoreline and the familiars cabins that lined it. My favorite times were also when it was just my Dad and myself in the 16 foot aluminum boat that my grandpa kept for family to use when at the lake. I would go into the tank in Grandpa's shed and pick out the minnows and we'd head out on the lake, coming in only because it was time for some of Grandma Bert's good home cooking for supper.

This week, we've had kids from WI, TX, MN, IA, SD and NE up at the resort with their families. Many of them we've known since they were toddlers, others we've met only recently. They've had some great action and made some lifetime memories. Here are a few photos of the memories they have made:

From Left: Austin's 26" CPR Walleye, Austin's 39" CPR Northern caught of the dock, Austin's 39" release photo, Derek with a nice northern caught and released while eating shorelunch, Steve with a 26" CPR walleye netted by his son Ryan, Andy's 28" CPR walleye, Steve holding a 29" walleye caught and released by his son Ryan

Get your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and cousins hooked on fishing. You'll be better off for it, and they will too. If someone in your life took the time to take you fishing when you were a youngster, send them a note with a "thank you" this week.
