With the water temp hovering between 68 degrees and 71 degrees those white tip walleyes are still in depths of anywhere from 4 to 12 feet. While most of our anglers are being successful with jigs and minnows, the famous Little Joe spinner seems to be the bait of choice. Trolling shorelines on the edge of pencil weeds or jigging rocky points seem to be the most productive spots for the walleyes. While the weeds are on there way to the surface northern pike seem to be more plentiful off rocky points with most of the larger ones being caught in the shallower waters. Spoons, rattle traps and spinner baits seem to be the most productive. Smallmouth Bass fishing has been fabulous in shallow waters on sandy beds in the pencil weeds. Tube jigs, mepps spinners, jitter bugs and top water poppers are a top candidate when catching the fierce fighting smallies.
