Default Post Your June 2009 Trip Reports Here

Have you made a trip up to Morson this month? Tell us about it. When were you here? What were you chasing? Which presentations worked? Structure, depth, etc. What were the highlights? Any personal best fish caught by your group?

    Smile June Trip

We started the trip with bad weather, wind and cold on the 8th. We caught some nice walleyes that day, but didn't stay out long. Three more from our group arrived on Tue. We caught most fish in 8ft to 25ft water.
The best was a 26in walleye that was released. I forgot to mention it was caught by an 8 year old, Tom's grandson. Another side note: we forgot the camera. It never fails, big fish no camera! John, another in our group, was always casting and he caught some nice bass, that were released. After returning from fishing one day he was casting of off the dock in Hanson's Bay and caught a 36in muskie. I would never have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes. Anyway, it was a great week and I'm looking forward to going back in July with the family.

    Default Thanks, Paul!

Thanks for the report, Paul. It was good to see you up here and get to be out when the weather turned nice.

I hope that Buckley's mixture helped your cold a bit. Make sure you take care of that before you come up again next month.

Default Trip to Mylies for the Muskie Opener

We had a great trip! Seven muskies altogether - the biggest were 42", 44", & 38". We were using jerk baits, surface lures, and bucktails. We caught muskies on all three. Muskies were mostly in the weeds by sandy beaches, with one big one coming up off of rock structure and smacking a surface bait right at dark - only to return to the depths and not resurface. :{ It was sunny, windy, and it rained one day. Temps mostly in high 70's and low 70's, with the water temp right around 71 when we left on Wednesday, June 24th.

    Thumbs up June Fishing Report

Well I was able to make it up for my first trip of the year on June 13th. I was able to fish until the 21st. I must say fishing was better than it has been in 6-8 years. I like to fish crappies all summer and fall on LOW, and this was one of the better shallow water bites I have had the found on the pond. We had many days with 100 fish per person days. Limits were running 12"-15.5". It seemed that they preffered the South facing dark bottomed shorelines in 1-8 ft. with emerging grass. twister tails and crappie minnows under a float was the ticket. Walleye fishing was also excellent as well. It seemed that fish were just about everywhere. We caught fish jigging reefs, trolling spinners, castin raps, and even doing a little bit of three-way crankin. Lots of fish in the 17"-28" range (which is a bigger average than I am personally use to). Smallmouths were still spawning and the shallow crank bite was great as well (this good fishing thing is getting repetitive). It seemed like most boulder shorelines were holding fish. I wasn't able to hit the muskies on opener as hard as I would have liked due to a dog biting my inner elbow area and taking out non muskie fisherman, but I did manage 2 fish, both of which were in the low 40" range. I'm going be back up the middle of July for some reef action and I hope July is a great month as well. Thanks Justin for keeping up with the crappie minnow requests.

    Wink June 20th---27th GREAT trip

Man I have been fishing L.O.W. for around 32 years average 3 to 5 weeks a year and I am telling you this year the fish we caught were feed well and FAT and hungry! We cast mostly low weeds (under water) shallow bays and our boat just did great. At shore lunch we had a mix of walleye and northern and it was hard to keep them under the slot. Largest walleye was 24 but a really healthy fish, I couldn't get my hands around the gills area. I brought her over for the group of 6 boats at shore lunch to see and everyone thought the fish was longer than 24" because of the girth. Every thing we caught was in the light weedy areas mixed with a little sand and rock both sides, kind of like most of the bays and only 4 to 6 feet deep. We fished from Stevens Bay to Dawson Island. Now I do have to say we had a lot a luck right close to camp at a place called &^*(B%%%. now you really didn't think I would give up my honey hole did you. Next Trip will be 90% musky fishing with a little break for lunch type fish. Until then Dream about the one that got away.

    Default Thanks for the reports

Thanks to all that posted reports for June. It's great to have some terrific anglers frequenting the board and posting some results from their trips.

June was a great month of fishing on Lake of the Woods. Despite a tough end to the month with high wind and a big cold front settled over the area, fishing was better than ever for most groups.

    See you in July!

    Talking June Fishing Report

    Hello Fellow Fisherman,

Our annual Father’s Day Weekend trip to Mylie’s Place was one of the best we’ve had in years! In 3 ˝ days of fishing, our party of three caught roughly 250 fish. No fishing story here.

We had our best luck on the humps. Find a hump in a big part of water and work it starting from the lowest depth and jigging out to deeper depths. Jigging with minnows and working those drop offs was the key to our success. Make sure you feel the bottom with your jig and you will have success on L.O.T. W.

Until our next report in August – Good Fishing everyone.

    Default Great report

    Thanks for the report, Chris.

You guys had some amazing fishing while you were here. 39 walleyes in 2 hours with just 2 guys fishing that morning before you had to leave is something else.

Good advice about getting that jig to the bottom too.
