The walleye bite is really hot right now. This is the 4th day in a row of stable, warming weather and with the increase in water temperature...the lake has become very active the last few days.

Several anglers have again told us that this is the best fishing they have ever had on Lake of the Woods in many years worth of fishing.

I've only heard from a few groups today, but already have had reports of 25, 25, 26, 26, 28 and 28 inch walleyes caught; with most being released.

Depths have been ranging again, but the majority have declared the 20 feet mark as the best depth. One boat was getting some nice fish in 8-9 feet as well so some fish are coming up nicely with the warmer weather. Good news and bad news when the fish are somewhat scattered...good news is that the fish are biting all over...the bad news is..it's Lake of the Woods and the fish are biting all over. You just have to get out there and drop something down to the bottom and see what will work for you. To borrow a phrase from many muskie anglers up here....if it looks like it will hold fish, it probably will.

Mostly jigs with minnows in varying colours. One boat said yellow was the hot colour, but another boat was having luck with green. We always suggest everyone try something different until one starts working noticeably better.

The weather looks stable the next 4 or 5 days so the bite could conceivably stay very good for awhile. Get out there and tell us what you're finding on the water.
