Things are starting to pick up. The walleyes are hiting good in 10' and less. The new weed seem to be producing well. 1/16th and 1/8th oz. jigs tipped with minnows is woring the best. I was out this morning and caught a nice batch of eyes and though I would give smallies a try. This is an awsome time to catch big smallies before they spawn. I kept the boat in 12-14 feet of water casting to the breaks. Slow twitching/dead sticking is the key with small jerkbaits. Do not expect hard hitting smallies right now they will just come up and pick it up. You will just feel some weight, set the hook and the fun begins. I caught a dozen or so in an hour and a half. I also managed to boat a couple muskies doing the same thing. A nice 37 and 39 in the boat. They were pretty beat up from the spawn but they were not shy about hitting a bait. You can never tell what you are going to get on small baits this time of year. I had water temps of 53 degree this morning.

Good fishing,
