    Default GPS Cards

Hello .. and a start to a new fishing season ... good luck to all .

A few months ago I questioned a GPS card for the flowage and many users replied that Mapping SPecialists remapped the flowage last year ... and would be published some time this year . I saw that a new GPS Card is out for 2009 .. and it lists the flowage in High Definition with one foot levels . Has anyone tried this card ?

Thank you .. and good luck this year !

    Default It's coming...

The LakeMaster website lists May 1, 2009 as the scheduled release date. I have not been able to get one yet. I talked to the fishing manager at my local Gander Mountain, and he said that they don't expect to see it until early this summer.

    Default Just to clarify...

I think I mentioned this before, but just to avoid any confusion... LakeMaster DOES NOT make the cards for Lowrance and Garmin, so they're only guessing as to the release dates. LakeMaster sends them the data (which they did several months ago), and Lowrance and Garmin each produce their own cards. Neither company has the 2009 updates listed on their web sites yet. If you want to know when they will be available, you need to contact Lowrance or Garmin depending on which GPS you own.

There will also be a paper map available from LakeMaster, but as of a little over a week ago, they had not scheduled the print run. Although it's not listed on the LakeMaster site yet, I'm pretty sure you can call and order their LakeArt version intended for framing and hanging, since they told me those are individually printed to order and would be available as soon as the data analysis was completed. Based on the other lakes, I'm guessing that will cost $89 unframed for a 23"x35" print.

I don't know. The last time I tried to hang a framed lake map in my boat it flew out!

Default If it was anybody but you...

...I would think you were just being sarcastic! But it reminds me of a really bad storm we had up there about 3 years ago. A couple guys in a pontoon boat were driving past my dock - well, trying to drive past my dock; I don't remember what size motor they had, but it was wide open and they were barely making headway against a ferocious south wind. As I was watching them struggle to make their way upwind, what had to be a 60 mph gust collapsed their bimini top and it came down right on top of them. By the time they had scrambled out from under it, their boat had spun around the other direction, and fortunately they had the good sense to head downwind until the storm passed.

Sounds like they almost turned that bimini top into a spinaker!

Default I guess they knew more than they let on!

Hopefully the folks with Garmin units will also be able to get theirs soon. Should be a big improvement over previous maps, you'll have to tell us how it looks when it arrives.

I got lucky, procured and actually used the new card on opening day. It's by far the best detail of the system yet and really opens up a new world of small humps and high spots along with some pretty cool channel areas. I'm not sure how long before the stores will have the chips, but they are worth waiting for.

    wing dam,

Did you negotiate a lower price? I just paid $107.95 + $3.00 S&H for a total of $110.95 off the LakeMaster website.

Hudson is a great place to fish and I had a lot of fun there. Thanks for the compliments... usually "many accomplishments" accompany the "getting old" part!

    Default Recommend a GPS?

Can anyone recommend a GPS to go with the cards you recently purchased?

Can this same GPS be used in a car, providing road \ travel directions?

I also am getting "a little long in the tooth".
Good luck on whatever water you ply this year. I am going to fish the St Croix all weekend. Fish have been running a little small so far according to my compadres.

    Default gps card for Lowrance

I have a Lowrance unit and when I'm searching the website for the Lakemaster Pro Wisconsin chip it does not list the Flowage as one of the lakes included. Am I looking in the wrong location?

There is a PDF near the bottom of the page with a complete lake list.

Default Lakemaster Wisconsin SD map chip

I bought the new Wisconsin GPS SD card from Lakemaster. I used it for the first time last weekend on the TFF. I am running a Lowrance LCX104C. In general, I was pleased with the product! The detail was much better than the "base map" in my unit. The GPS "overlay" was very accurate. In other words, things on the screen, lined up perfectly with those same things on the water. The accuracy of the contour lines was reasonably good, however some structures, as large as 1 acre were missed. An area North of the Sweeney Lake basin showed a large area as being 1 to 2 feet in depth, when in actuality, it was 7 to 10 feet. These companies run "grids" and then technology "connects the dots". Don't expect cribs and stumps to show up! However, some smaller bars in the middle of nowhere were indicated accurately. The 1 foot contour lines were a little cluttered when zoomed out, which is understandable. There are only two shades of blue for water depths; 0 to 10 feet is light blue and everything greater than 10 feet was a medium blue shade. I would really prefer more blue shades in 3 foot increments. This would be especially helpful on the TFF. It would highlight the old river channels and it would help visualize if countours lines are getting deeper or shallower in areas of moderate and gradual breaklines. . All of my saved waypoints overlay perfectly on the new Lakemaster base map. I would rate this product and 8 out of 10 stars. I hope that in the future, if enhancements, such as those I mentioned occur, I can update my SD card on line. Good Luck! Jim

    Default Garmin Available?

It looks like the Garmin maps are available. I'm going to order them.

I sure hope the new maps are more accurate than the previous version. The last one was at least 100 feet off on the rock pile entering Lake Bastine. It cost me replacing the prop on the boat I rented from Don Pemble.
