Rock Bar just off Beaver Flats looking into lake ten ???
If that's it I have almost hit it a number of times during high water.

Is this Pink Rock between 4 mile creek & where Gus' stump used to be?
This rock bar (Joe's Bar) was name after Joe Golomb, an old time fishing guide.

With all the rain coming this weekend, it should break up the ice by next week. The ice went out on the Chippewa Flowage early this week. We usually have ice out the following week.
The Chippewa was speared for the first time on Tuesday (04/14/09) evening.
Who knows where this is?

Tiny,
Is the same guide as the Indian named "Joe"? Many of the spots we fish today came from the Indian guide Joe who took out my father and uncles in the 1950's. He worked most of the resorts but was a favorite at Al's Place (later Fort Flambeau).
Joe used several different names for fishing areas that were different than termonology used today. The only one I can think of that is still called by the same name is Pump Island.
The area you show on the map would indicate that it is a strong possibility of being the same guide because the Indian guide Joe, liked the South end. He also liked the Beaver Flats area Log Jams which of course are gone now and this spot is right on the way. He called the Beaver Flats log jams (Northern Pines). They came out about 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the shore line. Joe loved throwing June Bug spinners into those logs for walleyes (gold blade) or northerns (red/white blade) or silver blade on sunny days.
I have the feeling you either know this from experience or have at least heard about the old methods. Anyway I was curious if this is the same "Joe" or if there were two Joes guiding the flowage back then?
Tiny is that the bay just north west of power lines and just south of the grassy island???
make that just North of grassy island
Tiny,
Another nice pic.I'm starting to think you have some connection with the fog.Must be what happens when you live with Fluffy!Anyway,I think connor is on the right track. Is it just north of the highlines?
Paul, Joe is the same character your referring to. He also had two sons that guided on the flowage. In fact one of his son's lives at the Fort Flambeau area. He is a very nice guy to talk to.
Connor, don't know what you are calling Grassy Island, because it is located just south of the Big Island, between the dam and Springstead. If it's the location you are saying the pictures is, then you didn't get it.
Gus, is correct also, it just north of the power lines and Donners Bay (in front of the house).
The ice is breaking up out front, there are big cracks and the bays are showing signs of water.
Here is another one,

You're in the flats looking at Big Mama.
Good job Randy, your Pa is sill up on you.

Tim, is that the southern tip of Long (aka hotdog) Island? Scott www.flambeauvista.com
I agree with Scott and its at low tide!
George
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
Oh no,
Not slidey island!
It's what Mini-me calls Slidie Island, because he enjoys sliding down the steep bank. The location is across from Long Island, camp site C-14.

Is it the point of Big Island across from the dam?
Good job Gus, the rock in the picture is just off the edge of the river channel. Its hard to make out, there are four otters swimming off that rock. I've seen many boaters go right over the top of that rock....Yikes!
Here is another,

Is this the island with the cross on it.
Are you in the Beaver Flats looking towards Sandy Point.
The last shot was taken from the south end of the Big Water facing north. So the sand banks by the dam would be in the back ground.
Island in the picture, is called Tony's Island. Tony is a local and guided on the Flowage for many years. Tony is married to Ovr Donner's (Ovr built Donners Bay Resort) daughter. Both very nice people, they sure can tell you about the history of the Flowage.
Have a great day,

Are we suppose to guess that its Robinson's Landing on the river or are we all done now till opener. If so thanks for all the pics and entertainment Tiny.
Thanks for the complement, just wanted to get us through until opener. Then there should be all sorts of new stuff to talk about.
We'll be putting in the docks and lift/boat tomorrow or during the weekend. Always look forward to that chore, its nice to look out the windows and see open water.
The DNR has been putting out fluke nets in the area.
Have a great day,

Thank you for all the photo postings over the winter, I consider myself lucky to have guessed correctly on one of them. My brothers and I will be up for our long-awaited week starting May 9th, so please save a couple of walleyes for us, OK?
HRG
Nice pics Tiny and everyone else that posted pics. One more week and a couple hours to go and it's time to get those walleyes.
I just looked at the number of hits this thread has received and I believe mine here is number 10,229! WOW, that has to some kind of record. Thanks Tiny for getting this thing started and keeping it going through "cabin fever season"!
George

I want to thank all of you for also making this a good thread. Everybody was positive and made the long winter go by.
Well we're all set for the opener. On Friday the docks, boat lift and boat are in. Friday evening there was a big storm and lots of rain. The Flowage is still about two to one and half feet down. Friday night we drove to the Lake of the Falls dam. Lots of small male walleyes up there. The DNR had all sorts of nets set up by the rapids.
Saturday Fluffy and I went for a boat ride. Was it nice to get out on open water. The water temp was 46. It sure surprised me to see very few people and hardly any docks or boats in. The only boats on the flowage were the DNR survey boats.
Sunday the DNR pulled all of their nets and also by the Lake of the Falls rapids. Don't know what that means, other than the walleye spawn is over?
Keep her head up,

Tiny, Really enjoyed the post and pictures! Looking forward to being up in 2 months. Say hi to all!
The Goat
Anyone have an idea how long it takes to get the survey results out?
The creel census runs through the entire season, including ice fishing. So the formal report probably won't be out until at least next summer. I spent a couple hours visiting with Jeff Roth in late March, and he said the analysis of the population data should be completed fairly quickly, but didn't mention whether he planned to release any of it prior to the full report. The walleye recapture phase should be wrapping up, but there's still one more round of electrofishing in the works for May to assess the musky population.

Hey Goat, maybe we can get the gang together for another campfire.

It was nice to see so many pictures of the flowage over the last few months, but now it's time to go see it in person. Good luck to everyone. See ya on the water.
"Try not! Do, or do not....there is no try."
The last few months have been fun thanks to "The Tiny Fisherman" and all who participated. Now the next months will be even "more funner". Good luck to all and be safe. Scott at www.flambeauvista.com
