Ice conditions are great here in Washburn County. I've been doing a little poking around out on the ice here and there lately. Here's what I've found.
Perch are very active right now on deep mud flats from 18 to 22 feet. Smaller baits are best for light bitting perch. Getting a lot of bigger perch has been a struggle, but we are catching lots of different year classes and sizes so that's good news for the future. Bluegills are going good on the weed edges, some of the medium sized lakes are putting out good numbers on most days. Crappies have been tough lately. As we get later into February and early March the bite should get better. A few walleyes are being caught on rock and gravel bars in the evenings on tip ups and shinners.
Good Luck and Good Fishing,
Jim Stroede
