    Default Spinning Real

    Greetings,

Does anyone use a spinning reel for musky fishing? This summer will be my 8th year of vacationing and fishing in Minnesota. For the past 7 years, I have always used a baitcasting reel. I have a few different reels and am not overly impressed with the drag systems on the baitcasters (Abu Garcia). I predominately use spinning reels for everything but musky.

Just curious if anyone else uses a spinning reel and what/how it is set-up?

    thanks

    Default Reels

I have a spin cast rod and reel set up for my clients that can't master bait cast reels. I do not know which reel you have but I find that most bait casting reels have superior drag systems. If your reel is an older model you may need some new drag washers. Bait casting reels handle the large baits used for muskie fishing better than spinning reels. The new reels are much easier to cast and retrieve the large baits that seem to get larger every year.

I do like the spinning reel set up for throwing plastic baits and tubes.
