I was watching Saric pound some Wisconsin water last nite and I picked up something simple to do with my smaller spring baits.......some of you may already do this. (I do this for trout fishing on some of my larger rapalas to help keep so many hook points from sticking in the eye socket/face area of the trout.) I have always been afraid of changing the hook configuration in fear of throwing off the balance of the larger baits.

Saric takes his smaller cranks that have 3 sets of trebles and replaces them with 2 larger style trebles to improve hooking percentages and to keep the smaller trebles from bending out during the fight and/or net job. There is one particular bait that this would work great on....the 8" buchertail crankbait. I have never liked the hook configuration on that bait with the 3 small trebles that barely stick out past the body of the bait but I love the action of it. I will slap on some 3 or 4/0 trebles now and feel much better about things.
