Default RIP Charlie “Chuck/Chuck Dog/Norm/Bobbles” Brant

It took me a couple days to feel like posting this.

Some of you remember seeing us together on the seminar circuit via Cabelas/BassPro/Gander Mtn. stores while some of you may even remember us running the old USFA Walleye Tournament Circuit as well. He, along with Tim Fields, ran very successful DAV Benefit Walleye Tournaments on the Allegheny Reservoir under the name Kinzua Allegheny Walleye Association (KAWA).

This man (thanks to his brother, Terry) was one of the very first fishing buddies I acquired after moving to Warren back in 1993. He was as obsessed with fishing as I was and we hit it off immediately. I had the pleasure of cutting my ‘walleye teeth’ under his tutelage.

Chuck finally lost his battle with cancer which was directly influenced by his exposure to Agent Orange while fighting the Vietnam War. His son, Steve, died unexpectedly 10 days prior due to complications from pneumonia while sleeping on his father’s couch during Chuck’s final days. Chuck was too ill to attend the funeral. Simply incomprehendable.

The day before he died, he was still barely able to chat so we hung out for about 45 minutes. One of our last topics of conversation dealt with “the proper size of horned-dace when chasing trophy walleye.” Yep, typical Chuck Dog fashion.

    RIP brother.

If anyone is planning to stop by the funeral home this evening, feel free to wear your fishing attire. The ceremony is going to be “fishing themed” which is exactly how Charlie wanted it.
