Madison Chain water temperatures are in the mid to upper 40's and should continue to cool in the coming days. Lake Mendota has been producing some good action on Smallmouth and Northerns during the day, and a few Walleyes at night. For the Smallmouth try throwing Crankbaits like Shad Raps, or 3 and 4" grub bodies on 1/8 and 1/4 oz. jigs. Look for action in 10-15' of water on rocky points. Northerns have been taking suckers in the 8" range, or Musky Jerk Baits. fish in the 8-15' area. At night shore fishermen have been having some success on Walleyes using minnows and fishing from Tenney Park breakwall, or down by the Union, also try Marshall Park inlet, and Warner Bay boat landing. Lake Monona shore fishermen have been having some success on Walleyes at night over near the convention center and along John Nolen Dr. During the day panfishermen have been doing pretty good on Bluegills and Crappies in Monona Bay, and off the Monona Terrace. Musky action has been spotty, with some success on large suckers or big jerkbaits. Lake Waubesa Bluegills, Crappies, and some Perch have been reported along the weeds near Christies and Goodland Park, also off the bar on Tower Rd. Crappie minnows have been producing good for the panfish, along with spikes and waxworms.
