    Default 6/6 Bass-Walleye Hunt

After arriving to our “hot spot” only to find some very lethargic fish, we made a big 8-mile run upriver hoping to turn things around. Within the first 30 yards of fishing, we netted 2 very nice bass and saw another pushing 5-6 pounds trailing behind. We managed to grind out about 11-13 more nice bass and 2-4 wannabees in 5 hours of fishing. We caught 3 undersized walleye and 2 really nice pike too.

I am not sure what is up with all of the floating algae/moss but it usually doesn’t start-up until late-August. What a pain in the butt!

Looks like we will be chasing walleye on Saturday and TBA for Sunday. Stay tuned.

    Good luck and stay safe!

An another 16-17 inch rainbow trout from the same area that rarely ever has rainbows lurking. Same thing happened just a couple weeks ago too.

Interesting about the algae. The area south of the Conewingo used to have an annual June bloom. The stuff would just cover the bottom for a few weeks and then wash out. It was a pain. I haven't been in that area this time of year recently. The stuff would really impact fishing then just seemed to go away. The August floating grass is always annoying. The Rainbow is also cool. The island around Starbrick had a nice batch of trout around it years ago as did the riffle down from Betts Park. Those areas went dead for trout for sometime and maybe they are back. All the high water of recent years and possibly some cooler temps help.

I ran into the algae Friday night. When I mentioned it to a friend he said that another friend of ours seem to think it had to do with lower boat traffic in some areas. No props breaking it up in the early season was his thought . That friend frequents a state park.
Between three groups out fishing with the Allegheny River around Tionesta, and some trout streams Saturday was a very tough day. Sunday morning everything switched around and the fish were easy

We have also seen some above average river flows lasting deep into May this year. Not super high but pretty high and lasting 3 months with no real relief until this week. 1300 cfs coming up later in the week.
