Butch Follick from Camden, OH and his Son and Grandson Jayden from Greenville, SC were fishing at Fireside Lodge for their first time. 1st day was great as they fished their way up to Twin Falls catching 40+ Smallmouth Bass and a few Northern Pike. Also this was Jayden‘s first ever experience fishing in Canada or any major fishing trip and he caught his first ever Northern Pike.

2nd day was a bit tougher as the Smallmouth were very tentative at times looking over their offering then swimming off. These three had a blast at lunch enjoying a shore lunch over an open fire and as always filling them up so much they had a hard time eating at suppertime. 3rd day was the best day yet not only catching numbers but size. They caught both Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike, Jake catching two trophy Smallmouth Bass both measuring 18.5-inches and Jayden caught the biggest Northern Pike of the day landing a very plump 29.5-incher.

4th and final day was a fantastic day fishing, catching many Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike, Jayden catching a 29-inch, and Jake caught a 35 and a 37-incher that had a very large girth. This was a very special fishing trip for all but for Butch he expressed how he introduced his son at a very young age to a Canadian Fishing Adventure that stuck with him for the rest of his life, and now he was doing the same for Jake’s son / his grandson Jayden in hopes that he will have the same wonderful memories. I think Butches mission was accomplished.

Jim Rienbold was visiting us at Fireside Lodge for his first time taking him down memory lane. 40 years ago he visited the Sioux Lookout area with his grandparents making many long lasting memories as a youngster. He started soaking everything up from the minute he arrived and had some very exciting action within the first few hours of the first day, catching some BIG Smallmouth Bass and had several BIG toothy critters come up and steal two of the lures he purchased from me that morning. Realizing his line needed replacing he came back to re-supply so he could continue on with his day, which he did catching more fish. 2nd day Jim said was fabulous catching many Northern Pike keeping a solo angler very busy. 3rd day was fabulous and ended just perfect for Jim, as stated by him, finding new areas of the lake catching Northern Pike and two Walleye of which he was wanting to catch to round off his trip. Jim arrived and departed with emotion saying this trip did him a world of good and plans on visiting us at Fireside Lodge on a regular basis.

Fran and Colleen Stack from Lorain, OH returned for their 14th time. DOA they went right out and caught 14 nice Smallmouth Bass, several Northern Pike plus Fran landed a 33-inch Muskie and a 19-inch walleye. What a start catching 4 species in just a few hours of fishing. 1st full day they caught a lot of Smallmouth Bass, with a lot on the bigger side, and Colleen caught a beauty 18.5-inch Trophy Smallmouth Bass. They also caught some nice size Northern Pike. 2nd day was adventure fishing travelling through a creek, breaking down a beaver dam to make it through to one of our back lakes. They had an absolute blast catching 79 fish, mostly Northern Pike and a few Smallmouth Bass.

3rd day was a great day catching over 30 fish a combination of Northern Pike Smallmouth Bass, and Coleen discovered a new jigging method that was almost just as affective and using live leeches catching a Trophy Smallmouth Bass along with several others that were big. Fran also used this method catching two walleye, one, as he stated, being the BIGGEST Fattest walleye he had ever seen and they live on Lake Erie and catch walleye on a very regular basis. 4th day they were chasing Muskie for most of the day having about a dozen follows, Fran landing a nice 33-incher and both him and Colleen caught 10 Smallmouth Bass. 5th and final day was an amazing day fishing catching 88 total fish finishing their trip on a high note. After returning home and checking their events calendar they made their reservation for 2020.

Bruce and Pam Ross from Mequon, WI and good friends Craig and Leslie Martin from St Charles, IL were all smiles when arriving and really glad to be Fishing with us at Fireside Lodge again. DOA all caught fish with both Leslie and Pam catching Big Smallmouth Bass on a purchased lure from my tackle shop. After supper Pam bought Top-water Lure which Bruce ended up using and caught a very large 37-inch Muskie that evening, great start for all.

1st day Leslie did great applying her skills in finesse fishing catching 17 Smallmouth Bass including a 19.5-inch Trophy. Pam and Bruce also did well catching Smallmouth Bass and some Northern Pike. 2nd day had Bruce and Pam fishing Muskie all day having excellent success getting 16 follows, three hook ups, and two landed in the lower 30-inch range. Craig and Leslie fished for Smallmouth Bass and Pike with Leslie again catching the most on her special new found worm. 3rd day was terrific for Pam and Leslie with the woman ruling the day catching many Smallmouth Bass with their new lure. After dinner they again visited my tackle shop to re-supply. Also, in the evening Bruce had another BIG Muskie blow up on his Super Spook but it never got hooked. They also caught a bunch of Northern Pike.

4th day Bruce and Pam had a good day catching a combination of Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass totaling 20 fish and had an equal amount of Northern Pike and Musky follows. 5th and final day had Leslie and Craig catching Smallmouth Bass like crazy with Leslie catching 22 herself. Bruce and Pam chased Muskie and big Pike all day catching a good number of fish and had a big Tiger Muskie follow them 7-8 times but could not get the fish to hit anything. All left having a great time already discussing their possible return in 2020.

It was very heavy and was a challenge for Jan to hold the fish for a picture. 2nd day they did well catching both Northern Pike and a few Smallmouth Bass. Third day they came in by noon to avoid the threatening showers approaching, but caught some fish before giving it up for the day.

6th and final day was about as good as their 5th catching many nice smallmouth bass on their new lure and technique of fishing they just learned several days before. This ended their trip on a high note, both feeling a little sad it was over but very happy about the memories added to their days visiting us at Fireside Lodge.

Returning for their 9th time were David Jewell, Wendell Hill, Bob Nutter, & Todd Plumbley from Pineville, Foster, Clarksburg, and Hamlin, WV. 1st day had these guys going to their old haunts catching Smallmouth Bass, but a lot of BIG Smallmouth were just looking at their offering and swimming off. This is typical of post spawn Smallmouth Bass and then all of a sudden, like turning a light switch on they start feeding very aggressively.

2nd day had them having a great day fishing and had a terrific shore-lunch catching many fish, a combination of Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, and even running into a Lake Trout while trolling for Northern Pike. It was a big surprise as they did not even know we had Lake trout in our waters. This group was having so mush fun that David expressed that he should have visited us 10-years ago and my response was that what matters is he is doing it now. He in return said they intend on making this a yearly visit to Fireside Lodge.

3rd and final day, boy three days flies by, they were in by 1:00PM but had plenty of fishing excitement before enjoying a mid afternoon nap during a gentle rain. They all caught Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass but the main happening was while Matt was brining in a Small Smallmouth Bass a Northern came up and grabbed his Bass, and with his rod doubled over David went for the cradle but as soon as he prepared to net the fish all Matt came up with was a small Bass. Then they both noticed David’s rod bent over, which he set down in an attempt to net Matt’s fish, and when he picked it up another fight was on and he ended up landing a Northern Pike, which may have been the one that had Matt’s bass moments earlier.

Father & son Bob & Ron Ramsey from Leavenworth, KS & Arden, NC returned for their 16th year to chase those BIG toothy critters. These two had a fabulous trip again catching a plenty of Northern Pike, chasing down Muskie, and just catching up and enjoying father and son time that can’t be accomplished when living several states away from each other. The time spent recapturing moments and happenings of years gone bye is done so naturally when sitting in a boat all day enjoying the sport of fishing. Bob and Ron have made this trip a tradition and hope to continue as long as possible. Thanks for choosing Fireside Lodge to enjoy this special time between father and son. Before departing Bob secured their dates for 2020.
