    Default Voluntary Musky Permit

    Red,

I just renewed my fishing license over the weekend and saw that they had quite a few additional options. One of which was a Voluntary Musky Permit. Is this the first year that they are doing this? I've had a multi-year license in the past, so this was new to me.

I, too, have a multi-year license and had not even heard of this. I will be mailing all my stuff to the PFBC next week for 2019 guide license renewal so maybe I will know more about it then.

Well, I decide to research this a little and came up with this link:

I also found a YouTube video that will show you a list of prices for all PFBC licensing options. To just see the prices, start watching at around 2:30 of the video.

Good deal, thanks Red. I did end up opting in on the Voluntary Musky Permit. I would be curious to see if the additional funds from this program may be used for things like buying minnows for the hatcheries. Any help could be beneficial.

The Three Rivers Chapter of Muskies Inc has been donating funds to the PFBC Muskie Program for things like minnows for several years. People can help contribute directly to the program that way, as well.

I think the most important thing to keep in mind, is the PFBC will use this voluntary muskie stamp to gauge interest in muskie fishing in the state. It is a million dollar program, and if not many people buy the stamps, their opinion will be that they are wasting a bunch of money on the muskie program. I'm a bit concerned about the stamp, really.

    Ivan,

Thats good to know thats an option for the helping with the cost of minnows, thanks.

Also, I agree, if they plan to use a "Voluntary" permit as a way to gauge interest, the data that they receive will probably not give a truly representative number. I know a lot of folks already don't like the prices of just a standard yearly license let alone pay additional money for the permit. Will be interesting to see how many people decide to go that route when renewing each year.

Sorry guys, been running hard this week.

I will be purchasing the permit and agree with all that has been said. IMHO, the musky community would be best served to suck it up a little and at least purchase the permit in the inaugural year. Otherwise, we MAY not have another chance to show our numbers (statewide) before pending changes occur.

I am not saying that there are items on the musky chopping block but as Adam eluded to in his previous post, I am a little worried too.
