I followed up on the article by emailing Bob to find out exactly where the tags were being placed so it would be easier for my boat to check before we released our muskies.
Here is what he had to say:
I'm told they're putting the tags in the adult muskies near the anal fin.
It's injected under the skin and is about the size of a grain of rice.
The tags going in the younger muskies is, I think, placed on the top of
the back or in the cheek, depending on whether they were stocked in spring
or fall.
