Thread: 2015 Water Levels

  1. #1

    Default 2015 Water Levels

It's that time of year. The constant query as to the water level for the coming year. How do I know. It still looks like a white topped parking lot out there. However, I took the liberty of dialing up the LOTWs Water Control Board's information. http://www.lwcb.ca/pdf/LakeoftheWood...2015.03.20.pdf They show it currently a few inches below normal for right now. But, as you know, it can change in a heartbeat. Not much snow this year yet to melt, so baring any unusual rain activity, draw your own conclusion.

Really, really low. Some of you may remember using the chain bolts as a reference to water depth. The bolts are now visible, and you can see just how much lower the water is. The ice next to the chain is sitting on a rock, and is not in the water, and is much higher than the water level. Have been to Young's Bay recently, and not much water in the harbor. All of the snow melted, so runoff done for the year. It’s all in the rain now........

Here are some views from the ramp we use in the winter. You can see just how far the mud goes out. Should be well under water.

Now that the ice is melting around the shore, and becoming water, you can better see the water level. Don't totally panic on the floating dock picture. The dock section is disconnected from the barge, and is tied up about 25-30 feet towards shore.

Currently it looks like it as low now as it was high last year. Should be interesting to see how things shake out.

Attachment 23707Good news is that I put my boat in Tim's spot today to fuel my boat. Awaiting a new hose for the main fuel hose. Bad news is that I had to use the trolling motor, held by hand at the surface, and barely made it in.

    Can you say RAIN!!!!!!!

Here's what the LWCB has to say. Doesn't sound too promising.

Wind is way down, and the water levels up a few inches. Be interesting to get an actual number when the water control board publishes it on Thursday. But for sure, obviously up quite q bit.

Bets n I ran up for the weekend. What beautiful weather and we were reminded quickly what a beautiful place the Lake is.Water is up from what it was but still low.Appeared to be a lot of water in the fields, creeks n rivers to the south though so suspect the level will raise a bit more over the next week or so.
Our fearless leader took me out for a few hours yesterday afternoon and if our trip is an indication of what's to come,we can expect a great year of fishing.
I'm particularly excited cause gas for me will be cheap this year since I
discovered our old Alaskan will run on fumes. When we got here the 24 gallon tank took 23.9.

And $1.30 cheaper than last year, but who's counting........................

    And the situation is?
    The world awaits.

LWCB seems to say up 3 inches with another couple expected but then,of course, the outflows are increasing.

The lake is up almost a foot since ice out. Ice out level was 1057.7, current level is 1058.6, and slowly rising. The lake looks much different now than last June.
Lots of nice rocks to hit.
