    June Fishing Report

I know some of you have been waiting to see a fishing report for a while now, so hopefully this will help hold you over for a little while. As you all know the ice did not go out at the usual time and persisted much longer than usual resulting in delayed spawning for the fisheries. As a result the fishing tactics for this season has changed and been varied from shores to humps for walleyes. The evening bite has been by far the best bite for the walleyes with some customers having over a hundred fish in a night with a fair number of quality fish in the mix. For those that did so well they generally were fishing from 12-20 foot of water, some were jigging while others were casting crank baits to shore. Live bait has been the main preference for jigging even though some have done fine on the minnow like plastics. A fair number of Muskies have also been caught inadvertently while pitching jigs and twister tails along the shorelines for walleyes.
A little boy caught a 48 inch Muskie casting towards the reeds off the dock recently. For the most part the muskies appear to have finished spawning just in time for opener tomorrow. The northern have been a bit scattered on the windblown points, coves and shorelines with the turned up water. For the most part the northern bite has been decent with a few large fish mixed in. The season has had a decent start with all things considering and the water has reached around 58 degrees in the main channels with nearly 64 degrees in the shallow bays for surface temp. For you bass/Canadian carp fisherman, they have recently begun to make their spawning beds along the shorelines which should help the Muskie and northern fisherman figure out tactics. Before coming up, I would recommend emailing us to have a better understanding of the weather patterns and what the bite is doing at the moment and if any trends seem to be emerging. Have a great weekend and we look forward to hearing from you.
