Default Tuffy Esox Magnum Rear Casting Deck

    Hi Guys,
I am buying a "new" older Tuffy Esox Magnum tiller and am picking it up in May and am going to build and install a rear casting deck. My question is what is the length dimension between the two side walls/storage areas (not the beam length)where the rear casting deck lays flush with side walls/storage areas? Or if anyone else has a rear casting deck in a Tuffy Esox Magnum tiller and they could measure theirs that would be great. I am thinking somewhere in the 48" range?? Reason i am asking before i get my boat is that i would like to build it and waterproof the wood and get the carpet on before i get it in May so all i have to do is install once i get my boat. Any advise or help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I would wait to build it until you have boat in hand. You might think of something else like where to move the gauges or how wide to make the deck when the boat is in front of you. I've made about ten decks on different boats and haven't waterproofed the wood. I haven't had trouble with rotting wood. The carpet adhesive does a good job of waterproofing. That being said, it sure can only help to waterproof the deck. I can run over to my parents and measure their Tuffy. They have a Magnum.

Remember not to leave a little wiggle room for the carpet.

    Default deck material

I had my wood front deck replaced with a heavy gauge aluminum panel. Lighter, no future rotting, took the carpeting well. Will not soak up water like wood does. After two seasons it has served me well so far.

In the areas I needed to use wood I got a product called PLYDEK from Overtons http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...5-each&i=76127
Along with being marine grade it is treated to prevent rot. when I got mine they had free shipping so that was a good saving. I had half inch in the boat originally but went with 3/4 for more strength. One thing to remember is to coat the aluminum runners where they touch the wood so corrosion will no occur. Wish I would have done the whole thing with aluminum but in my case it would not work.

Thanks for helping out with measuring. I got caught up in getting a few things done before the show last weekend and didn't get a measurement.
