We had a group of guys at Andy Myers Lodge in August 2103. We have had a group go to AML and Eagle Lake every year since 2005. This year was by far the best year we had as far a big fish is concerned. Steve's post on fishing reports are spot on. Nothing to hide as far as information is concerned in this camp. They want you to catch fish, period!

We found our walleyes anywhere from 18' to 29' with the bigger ones coming from the deeper water and usually away from the pack of eaters. We had no problem catching enough fish to eat and released all fish in or over the slot limit. Our group has learned over the years a few productive spots on the lake and are always pointed in the right direction by Steve & Danny what is currently our best bets. When we walleye fish we do it all ourselves and do not hire a guide. We caught walleyes on both Lindy rigs and minnows and jigs and night crawlers. We have a big walleye trophy that is awarded at the end of the week, so the measurements we have are backed up by a golden rule and witnessed by at least one other person. So when we give measurements they are within an 1/8 of an inch. Our group ended up with numerous 24 - 27" walleyes, at least 6 walleyes 28", 2 that were 29" one 30" and the winner was a 30 1/4" walleye. Not too bad for only spending one week a year on the lake.

Our group is fairly new at musky fishing, so we do hire a musky guide periodically or go with Steve or Danny in the evenings. One of our rookie musky fisherman caught a 40" musky on his second cast when guided by Scotty and had a chance at a 50"+ jumbo at boat side, but did not connect. They saw numerous other musky as well. They tried again later in the week with Mike, but a change in weather slowed them down a little bit. They saw 6-8, but did not have any takers. Steve and Danny showed us where some real big girls were hanging out, but none of them wanted to bite. They would just follow our lures and swim away. Leaving us with what could have been and wanting more action. From the stories I heard, I would guess we saw over 50 muskys for the week and 10 of them were over 50'+ and 5 of them over 54". You never know when I real monster will show up! Our group did manage to catch a couple musky's on our own. A 30" musky was caught around Strawberry Island and a 50 1/2" was caught in Portage Bay. Bucktails seemed to be the bait of choice.

Although we did not target Northern Pike, we ended up catching 6 or so 30+" pike and 3 that were over 40". We caught all of those walleye fishing around some of the humps. The big pike in Eagle have very pretty markings on them when caught from deep water.

Needless to say we had an excellent trip and were treated very well by the all of the staff and by Steve, Danny and Julian. Thanks to the dock boys for taking care of us. We are already booked for 2014 and will have to figure out a way to budget for a new expense "reproductions at the taxidermist". Our group set personal standards for reproductions of 30" walleye, 40" northern pike and 50" musky. As you can see from my report, we have placed an order with Lax Reproductions! Cannot wait to see the finished reproductions as all big fish were released back into Eagle Lake to reproduce and fight another day!
