8/10-8/24
sorry about the report delay, computer was down for repairs and been on the water daily.have had numerous inquirys as what is going on from those coming up and from those needing their weekly fix so here's whats happening.
been a great couple weeks,full camp,wonderful guests,overall good weather,fishing biting,couldn't ask for more.
water temps have been ranging from upper 60's to mid 70's (avg. has been low 70's)with a couple spikes on hot flat sunny days to upper 70's but with daily returning normal winds and breezes plus cooler nites it has not been an issue with regard to patterns nor general activity levels.
walleye fishing remains very strong both in numbers of eaters and multiple trophy sie fish daily/weekly 27-31.5",patterns and presentations remain the same/similar to previous reports with the exception of a gradual drop in contact depths to 28-35'though the past couple weeks. mid lake humps, hard bottom areas and big minnows, lindy rigs. you'll catch some fish with jigs, some with spinner rigs, crawlers, etc. but for above avg success read previous reports for tips and keep it simple.pay attention to small details that add up to the big picture. danny, scott, darcey had days they had to return to camp by 2;00 because they ran out of bait,10-14 doz. floro leaders, adjusting height of the presentaion according to fish location in relation to the structure and bottom, bait size and type, colors of hooks, locations and depths of fish on bars according to forage, wind, sun angle, etc.typical examples was rawsons fished walleyes daily with guides and boated over 700 during thier stay, the new large groups of retzloff's,mcbride,s and ohare's after havings fished many diff fisheries past years came to AML and eagle, left totally impressed with the numbers, quality, and diversity and can't wait to get back next season.the many yearly repeat groups, well, thats the reason they keep coming back and see what i've kept preaching the past 6-8 years, the best of eagle is now and coming when it comes to walleyes and the future of the fishery just keeps getting better every year.
with the water warm up the movement of some bigger pike shallow that we saw a couple weeks again slowed and the bigger pike and quite a few a from 36-43" are again being caught deeper by walleye fishermen with most groups encountering some daily but they can be specifically targeted on heavy floro leader or wire leader lindys and suckers 5-7" or trolling deep divers/spoon plugs that will reach 25'+. in reverse when doing this some incidental big walleyes 28"-30"+ will come to the net.
bass are very scattered unless 4wding it till mid sept. then it will be some of the best big smallie fishing of the season on eagle through mid oct. with big avg size fish bunching up on humps and feeding aggressively.
torut have not been targeted much at all in recent weeks but yesterday 2 groups went out and boated 25-30 along with some whitefish. in the next couple weeks we will start targeting a peak of grouping prespawn fish for some exciting jigging action.
musky fishing has been consistant this week with multiple patterns producing and lots of fish moving. week before last was a warm up with some hot weather after some great success with cooler water temps the previous 10 days-2 weeks and in typical fashion lots of fish and big ones moved very shallow quickly with a lot of chasers. moatsy and kerry from spanky baits had over 240 fish to the boat that week with guides,18 boated,20 more on and off,30-50 of the fish up they figured were 50"+ and 6-10 that were pushing 54"+. we had a day together with 18 fish up over 50 to mid 50" and kerry boated his biggest at 50.5.this week some stabilization has occured. sat pm after check in went out with bill and 2nd cast he boated a 52.5. he's added a number of 42-48" to his catch through the week, lost a jumbo bozo and is always around fish as is typical when he;s here with us .sun and tues i fished with the sicard group and boated a 52 and 51.5. they added heavy 51.5 and a 49's through the week to their totals and lost a heartbreaker 54"+.everyone fishing muskys reportd numerous fish and big ones moving. again, speed is the key so they committ and come hard into the turns. slow roll and mostly you'll just have stories of fish seen. both rocks and weeds.weed growth in most areas is the best i've seen in a couple years. still mostly blades accounting for most fish but ripping minnow baits is coming on too especially off rocks.some topwater, some dawgs, some jerks but all in all strap on a blade and keep it moving for the biters.all sections of the lake seem to be about equal right now from 500 yds from camp to 35 miles out and everything in between as far as fish movement,we're fishing it all and the key is when to be where according to wind direction, sun and it's intensity, type of day and of course some luck.on the days they are moving really good it doesn't seem to matter but when applicable during fishing times on the tougher days moon rise and set was the diff..
camp is now full through sept 7 but got some scattered openings from then through mid oct for some the best fishing coming up to be had.if you're contemplating a last minute trip nows the time to get it locked in,888 727 5865, info@andymyerslodge.com for details and to secure your adventure!
till next week good fishing,
