Weather played a major role in the fishing action during the week. A massive cold front swept through the area slowly and dropped daytimes temps as much as 30 degrees...we had lows in the 40s overnight. The walleye bite slowed right down to some of the toughest fishing in recent memory. Several groups had slow fishing during their stay. One boat did well in deep water off the edge of some reefs, but most walleye anglers reported slow fishing.

Muskies stayed fairly active throughout the cold front, which was a bit odd for the norm, but with the temps being so hot prior..it did not surprise too much. Most fish were caught/scene more on rock structure than weeds. Several big fish caught and lost during the week with the biggest being personal bests of 52 on 51.5 inches for two anglers. The former on a double 10 in the early morning on Friday to end the week and the former on a topwater as the sun went down on Saturday to start the week. In between several other nice fish up to 48 inches were landed, as well as another personal bests of 46.5" and 47" to end the week on Thurs/Fri. The early morning bite was consistent throughout the week. Bucktails and topwater were the best tools to find fish.

Northerns gave the best action of the week with mid-to-high 30 inch class pike being caught regularly. Several over 40 were hooked and landed and a real giant was hooked and lost. The pike was so big that when the guys went back to the spot 90 mins after losing it and hooked into a 44 inch muskie, they were actually disappointed!!

Weather looks to warm up this coming week and that should help the walleye bite. Any kind of stable weather will help keep the muskies moving.

Good luck on the water this week.
