    Default report7/27

    7/27
was a great week with many repeat guests and some wonderful new ones. everything is going great and bookings or indications of returning for 2014 before departure was 10 out of 12 groups with 3 groups going to 2 weeks for next season.
with arrival of some cooler weather and ne wind last week water temps have dropped into the upper 60's. projected to be 60's low 70's through this coming week so water temps should remain or drop slightly into mid 60's with the cooler nites.the coldest water is on the lee sides of basins and warmest water is on the windblown side or at least was yesterday when checked.action was best in warmest water areas.
walleyes bit good and the big bite has arrived. several days last week some guides had to return by 2;00 out of 10-12 doz bait. one day danny had 120+ with 42 over 26" fishing with the Majerus group. fish are from 17-30'and big minnows on lindy rigs accounting for highest % of exceptional catches, some reports of bottom bouncers and spinners with crawlers catching a few fish. some bigger pike being caught and some muskies grabbing walleyes off reefs too.the pm suspended bite running minnow baits 7'-15' down over main lake basins was good till rain and wind came in wed. then no one tried it rest of the week sticking closer to camp in the pms, most fish were 18"-27". gilberts stretch and nash bay over 60-80' of water, portage bay was not tried but pattern should hold there too off area between tugboat and the big south point. look for suspended bait fish schools with your electronics, the higher they are the better the fishing will be,sometimes sitting flocks of gulls will also give you an indication of where to start and where ciscos will be, there will be walleyes/pike below and they will become active as the cisco rise to feed on daphia between 7;00-9;30 pm . 4wds were also strong,no fly-ins for walleyes last week.
muskies still coming off both weeds and rocks mostly on blades though some action picking up on rubber and minnow baits with the relativley quick drop in water temps from upper 70's to upper 60's in just a couple days. plenty of shallow fish but look for some fish especially bigger fish coming up off deeper breaks of bars and points from 17-25'depths so don't be afraid to fish some structures both shallow and deeper. with stabilization of temps and thier adjustment to it and some sun those will move up tight again and some of those big fish that have not been shallow much at all yet since the hot temps ,hanging on the deeper reefs with the walleyes could make a shallow movement, seen it alot in the past so a big fish movement should occur with stabilization next few days on. stay tuned on developments. we're excited about the potential upcoming possiblities of big fish action.
some availablity yet for 2013 and a great trip and adventure. 1 availablity for aug 24-31,1 for aug 31-sept 7 and several ea week sept 7-oct 19
both hskpg and american plan guided or unguided pkgs 2-8 guests.
    good fishing to all,
    herbie

That's exactly what I wanted to read this morning while drinking my coffee. I guess the worst thing that could happen would be some hot & flat weather over the next few weeks to get those water temps way back up. But overall, I like it. Let's hope the big girls slide shallow for the early Fall...cause we're comin' for em.

See ya soon old buddy, but as always not soon enough.
