Default Labor Day Plans in Trophy Trout Section

If you are considering fishing the trophy trout area below Kinzua outflow with live bait, you may want to change your plans. Tons of moss hanging on the river bottom making live bait fishing very difficult if not impossible. I would advise staying higher in the water column if you want to have any chance of having a "clean" retrieve. The mossy stuff is so long that it is already pulling off the bottom and is floating on the surface/suspended as well. Fishing with lures/flies is your best bet, IMO.

    You have been warned.

Good luck and enjoy the holiday!

Memorial day? I do believe the moss bloom is an annual event and disappears in June if my memory serves me correctly.

Running waaaaaaay early this year for sure. We need a day of high water to flush the system.

The moss is a little worse even further south of Warren too. Lots of suspended chunks throughout the column. We have still been managing several muskies/pike but lots of lure/line cleaning involved too.

Hopefully, this high water we have had over the past week or so will clean things up. Discharge rates are descending now.
