    Default Ice Reports?

    Ty,
Will we have open water for opener?

There's going to be a lot of open water but I'm guessing there will be some ice chunks to dodge. Today will be the big melter day. I know melter is not a word but it works. We have a lot of wind today and warm temps. Most of the bays will go out today and the main lake might be open in some areas like Moore's bay. I plan on taking a boat ride later today so I'll report back tonight or tomorrow morning on how far I get. If anything, you can pay Denny at Deer Run and use his boat launch. The west Fork is wide open and there's just a couple walleye there.

Just give me a call. I've been bustin' my hump to get stuff done before opener so I haven't returned calls in a couple days but I plan on making all my calls tonight and tomorrow morning.

Moore's Bay did end up opening up yesterday. We didn't get rid of as much ice as I thought we would. Hopefully things change with some of the rain we're getting. I did see where the ice buckled on the west side out a ways from shore. The ice was thin enough to crumble over itself kind of like an ice heave but with a slush mound instead of an ice mound.

We kind of took a turn for the worse with the weather. We got somewhere around a foot of snow last night and a little more today. I have no clue what that will do to the ice. Weird weather.

That's funny........but accurate. I'm not sure where all the runoff is going to go. The Chip is at full pool already. There's going to be some serious water management issues coming up shortly.

I'm guessing the ice will finally go out tomorrow. There's still some ice out there but we're supposed to get rain and wind tonight.

Wow...feel sorry for the downstream residents...almost 16 times that normal out flow at the dam! Don't think I've ever seen a post that high for the Chip. The TFF out flow is over 10 times the normal out flow. Amazing, but must be a sight to watch.

Yea, lots of water going out. It's been at the same level every day this week and the lake has been steady. It was over 5,000 cfs a few times last summer, and it didn't have much effect on the lake level either because water was flowing in at about the same rate.
