Default Hows the 2013 Opener lookin Maxx ????

Hey Maxx, I am convinced the lake will be ice covered next week yet even though we are going to be around 70 degrees all week. Have you done a drive by after your most recent blizzard ??? If so, any news on what the Flowage looks like ??? This will be the first opener I have not been able to get out on the lake. Really getting anxious to get out there and do some jigging for those golden beauties. We will be coming up on friday regardless and fish however I can. Hope to see you on the water. You stay thirsty also my fiend. (Fishin Machine says Hi)

    Hi Blueberry,
You might be right. I live in Radisson now so I took a trip around the Big Chip this morning. What I found is the landing off Lampe Road is still packed in about two feet of ice. The "CC" South landing and the "CC" North landings were also packed with ice , but it is starting to get dark but still thick. The Hay creek landing had open water from the creek to the boat landing, but packed in ice down stream. I saw open water at the "CC" blueberry bridge about 4 feet wide and a 100 feet long, but the cold last night made skim ice on that. The "CC" bridge by the Landing Resort had open water all the way to the first bog west, but on the other side of the bridge it went about 50 feet. The West Fork of the Chippewa River is open down about two miles but not to Moores Bay yet. The ice you could see every where else is bright white. No honey combing yet. The ice is right up to shore in most places as well. There is no gap between shore and the ice. It looks like janruary ice! Everyone is excited about the temps going to be in the 70's which is nice, but the most important thing is what will the lows be at night and if we get a lot of rain. Those two factors are more important to melting the ice. The last time I checked the weather it forecasted vey warm over night lows. If we get rain with that, the ice coul;d go fast. My personel belief is we will have ice to contend with on the opener. There will be open water, but lots of ice floes. Could be a dangerous time. Have to go slow and keep your head on a swivel. For now, I'm going to have another.....Cup of coffee that is. Say hi to The fishing Machine. see you guys this season I'm sure.

    Hi dfkiii333

No, I'm not in the tournament and didn't want to get tangled up with all the boats. I have some shore spots I'm going to try. two weeks ago at the "CC" bridge I lost a huge walleye at the shore. I was crappie fishing of course. Now that the season is open I'm going to try other spots from shore. I've got a feeling that the "CC" bridge is going to be crowded.

    Good luck out there !

I've probably got another week or so to go before I can put the dock in.
