Thread: Ice out ?

    Default Ice out ?

Hey maxx, what's the ice situation up there? Lakes down here in SE Wisconsin just opened up last week. I'm thinking there's still plenty of ice on the flowage. Also looks like you have had some snow the past few days. We are thinking of coming up the second weekend in May, but I'm starting to wonder if the flowage will still be iced up.

    Hi Tony,

Good to hear from you. Bring your auger! The flowage still has 24"-30" of ice and it got cold enough last night to make ice. I'm putting together an ice fishing package for July!

Hopefully you'll win Ty's ice out contest though. I have a guide job on opening. it's going to have to get real warm real quock to make that. Either that or if North Korea launches a nuke on the flowage, that might work.

I really can't tell you if the Big Chip will be clear of ice by then or not. I just keep making and selling my lead-free jogs and spinners. I hope you've been to my new website www.americantraditionsfishingtackle.com. Buy lots, the spinners will catch a lot of bass down in your neck of the woods. And they're cheap! So what are you waiting for, buy now!!!

When you come up stop in and visit at my house in Radisson. Or maybe I can meet you at the Village Kitchen for a burger. Good luck fishing.

yeah, I think I have may 4th for the contest. My brother Steve and I are coming up on the 11th-13th. Unfortunately we'll be driving through Radisson at 5am. We usually leave here around midnight, like to get the boat on the water for a long day of fishing. Hard to believe there still is 20"+ of ice yet. I didn't realize there was that much. I'll have to take a look at your website, not much of a jig fisherman though. Hopefully we get ice out by 3 weeks from today.

Depending where you are in the northwoods, we got anywhere from 6"-12" of snow and it is still snowing on and off all day. tonight will be 10 degrees. that'll be making ice! great weather for January.

Extended forecast is calling for 60's to near 70 by the weekend. I would think/hope that the coming warm spell will thaw things up for the opener.

Sure. You'll be able to motor out 20 yards and then get out onto the ice floe, drill a couple of holes, and set up your tip ups.

Even with the warmer weather coming, I think any opener will be dominated by dodging ice bergs if you can get your boat in the water at all.

Tonight the forecast is for 9"-13" of snow with thunder and lightning. Sounds fun! If we do get that amount of snow, it just might be heavy enough to push the ice down to speed up the thawing process. I wouldn't recommend any kind of travel on the ice floe at all. The warmest temps I heard for this week is maybe 50 by Friday. Stay thirsty my friends.

What do you think Tom ? Even if temps were to make it to the 70's next week I have a hard time believing we are going to melt two feet of ice in seven days...

What do I think? I think it takes a big dog to weigh a ton. This weather is so screwy. We just had a foot or more of snow last night. On the bright side, hopefully that will weigh down the ice and melt from the bottom up. I've seen ice go out fast when that happens. For a more accurate prediction, ask me Friday may 3rd. even then i might not know! HAHA. If you can't keep thirsty, then keep drinking my friend.

According to intellicast.com, going to be 75 in Hayward on Sunday. If that's the case I would think the ice will go fast.
