Default Cool Nights Warm Days = Great Fishing

The recent combination of cool nights and warm days has triggered some of the best fishing of the year for me as of late. Walleyes and smallmouth bass in particular have been very active. We have been using jigs and crawlers around wood and weeds to catch these fish. Largemouth bass have slowed a little but are still offering a pretty good bite using a variety of plastics around deeper weed edges. Crappies, perch, and northern have started to show up from time to time and I look for these species to get more active as the water continues to cool down. With a cool week forecast ahead I plan to start using more minnows for bait and look for rock bars and mud flats to start holding more fish.
