APPROXIMATELY 100 COLUMBUS-AREA YOUTHS TO PARTICIPATE IN FISHING EVENT

The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. will host its annual youth fishing event on Thursday, July 12th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Whetstone Park in Columbus. Approximately 100 youths, who are participants in Columbus Recreation and Parks summer programs, are expected to attend this event. The park is on Hollenback Road and is a west turn off N. High St. in the Worthington area, the Park of Roses is out front and the casting pond is all the way in the back way past the tennis courts.
The Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc. organizes this event, with the help of George Wilson of the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, to coincide with a Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs (HOFNOD) program aimed at directing youths toward positive activities and away from drug use. For some youths, Thursday’s event may be their first fishing experience.
A $500 ODNR Division of Wildlife Step Outside Grant, plus a $400 Conservation Club Grant from the Ohio Division of Wildlife along with donations from Muskies, Inc. club members purchased channel catfish to stock in the pond, food for the kids and each participant in the HOFNOD program with their own rod and reel to use for future fishing trips.
This annual event is cooperation between the Central Ohio Chapter of Muskies, Inc., the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, and the ODNR Division of Wildlife. Club members are encouraged to attend and bring a needlenose pliers and a towel for your hands. This is the best event the club holds all year plus we meet at the Pig Iron up the street afterwards to discuss are favorite highlights of the evening.
