sorry about the late report, was swamped for a few days.
water temps mid-upper 60's,down from mid 70's 10 days-2 weeks ago.
lots of in and out weather fronts, not cold, not hot,but cloudy, maybe a few sprinkles to sunny, rains at nite, wind west to east 180 degres during same day,etc just bouncing around alot. avg daytime temps have been high 60's to 70's.
mayfly hatch seems to be starting to wind down, was one of the heaviest i've seen in a few years on parts of eagle and it did slow down the walleye bite for some last thurs-sun. however mon a very strong and positive bite was reported with some avg size much bigger fish showing up. the hoffmans have so far boated 17 fish 26-29" with a 31.5" 11 # to top it off. some groups of fish quckly starting to make a move to the shallower humps in the last couple days and that signals the start of one of the best bites of season thru the next 2 months. this movement is coming quickly so that also could be some of the reason also for the more spotty fishing shallow that was encountered .jigs and lindy rigs on the humps, spinner rigs ,jigs, and cranks on the flats.minows, leeches, and one group been doing well on jigs and crawler tails fishing shallow.
bigger pike are being reported showing up in the heaviest cabbage patches in the south west sections.
bass are off the beds now for the most part but still roaming in the general area and bigger females on rocky points ,shoals and reed /rock combos nearby spawning areas.top waters,x-raps,flukes,and leeches on a split shot rig.
musky season opened but only a couple groups out for a day here and day there. nothing real serious yet.
was out sun for 4 hrs and raised 8 ,had a fish miss twice that looked to be mid 40's and lost a good fish 48-50" on the 2nd head shake.scotty was out with a group sun and raised 9,had a fish 52-54" grab a small pike sideways that had been hooked on a bucktail and just missed getting it into the net. mikie has a 55" already, young rosenberg boated a 40". for the most part muskys encountered relating to weed cover. # 8,#9 blades moving fish but i'm sure 10's would to. when i was out it was post frontal high pressure with a drop in water temps and most fish reacted to ripped minnow baits, rubber, and both fish that tried to eat came on suicks,so more reactionary type of baits. a spell of good warm sunny weather to raise water temps a bit again would bring on a surge of activity. l
lake trout activity has been slow for those who tried last few days for some reason, marking them but tough to bite, perhaps mayflys, maybe weather patterns.???
