Default Witch Bay Staff Fishing Report continued

Fish converting to normal summer pattern starting to materialize. Walleye that are continuing to make the transition to mid lake humps most active during the evening bite. Shallow boulder filled points mixed with vegetation turning up good numbers and size in the shallows. This tactic of jig and live bait or plastic pulled through the shallows most productive during high sky morning and afternoon fishing.
Some notable walleye catches include: Curt Evans 24” and 27”, Craig Kipp 25”, Rob Ames 22”, Kent Ames 24", Derek Nickol 28”, Lyle and Dennis a Dozen 18-24”
Northern Pike very consistent in shallow weed bays. Good numbers of deep bodied smaller pike with quite a few trophy sizes in the mix. Small to midsize jerk bait style lures are most productive, success also being had with spinners and plastic presentations.
Some notable Northern Pike catches include: Curt Evans 38”, Jack Redford (Jack is 10 years old) 32”, Rob Ames 37”, Justin Maslow 37”, Jon Porter 39”.
Smallmouth bass are very accessible on shallow, gravel bottoms as they have finished their spawn. Spinners, Plastics and small minnow baits are extremely affective presentations to these very aggressive fish.
Some notable Smalley catches: Ed Ames 18”, Jon Pierce 2-17”
Water temps averaging 68-72 degrees. These early high temperatures show promising signs for the Muskie opener next weekend adding another prized species to and already exciting summer. Looking forward to keeping you posted.
