The week started off with a major change in weather. Winds blew 20-30MPH from the NE all day Sunday and a massive cold front moved through Sunset Country. Monday was again chilly and windy, with Tuesday having rain showers off and on with cooler temps as well. Fishing was certainly slower during the front, but the weather turned on Wednesday and warming trend and light winds turned on the bite.

Walleye action was progressively better each day through to the weekend with one boat producing a 105 walleye day on Friday, plus losing many fish they didn't keep track of throughout the day. THe guys talked about spinner and minnows being the choice of presentation of choice for their big day. Several other groups reported great fishing as well...depth ranges from 8 feet of water down to 20 depends on where they were fishing with defferent basins having different average depths.

Live bait as been the key with minnows outselling leeches.

Northerns have been a little slow so far, but many have been caught by walleye anglers.

Muskies have been active as well with several being landed on walleye tackle and others getting bit while tossing lures for northerns. This is likely a feeding frenzy between spawns. With the season closed for spawning, please kepe in mind that these fish are quite vulnerable and need to be treated with even more care at this time of year. Anyone seeing a muskies in the area they are fishing should not be attempting to throw back and entice that fish to bite.

Weather looks good for the coming week so the bite should be on as well.

Water temps seen up to 64 degrees in one bay on Friday, June 1 during the afternoon sunshine.
