    Default 5/8/12 Report

For the most part it was a good opener for most fishermen, The weather held off most of the day on Saturday and fish were willing to bite. The Crappie action was hot and a lot of fishermen took advantage of them being shallow and willing to eat. Most of the Crappie were being caught tight to shore in wood. I did catch a few nice ones out it 14 feet of water last night that looked to be full of spawn yet. The walleye were scattered, maybe they are as mixed up as we are with the weather being the way it has been. Fishermen were reporting catches in 2 feet of water to 30 feet of water and on anything from crawlers to stick baits. The pike always seems to be hot in our area and all of the pike were coming off of new green weed growth. The smallmouth bass are sitting on beds already, a month early and are protecting their nest from anything that comes by. Cast tubes, jigs, or stick baits near cover where a bed might be located for some hard hitting smallmouth action.
