    Default Opening day 2012

    Hi everyone,

Got a late start today. Fished with my bud Steve who just bought a new boat this past winter and asked me to help him break it in right. we got out at 3 in the afternoon and fished in a steady rain/drizzle for half the time out there. When the rain stopped, the wind picked up from thre East, but not real strong. By 8 we had boated Bluegill, perch and walleyes.

We used leeches and minnows, but all the fish came on jigs tipped with minnows. Had the bobber rod out too but nothing touched it all afternoon. The hits were all very light. The fish would just stop the jig, but not pull. Actually set the hook by just jigging. We fished the deep wood all afternoon and heard about the crappies being caught shallow. We did noit catch a crappie out in the deep wood. Will try the shallows for crappies tommorow. Good luck fishing everyone.

For the day my bro and I caught 4 walleye (18, 23, 16, 12). Released the big and small one. Two were caught on minnows and two on leeches. 4 northerns (20, 23, 21, 24) all were released. If i would have known we were going to catch that many i would have kept them all also caught 1 crappie and 2 gills a perch and a large bass that spit the jig at my face right at the boat. Didnt get out on Sunday given the weather, so hopefully i will get out this week sometime. Good luck fishing!

Is there a bait shop in Hayward that has leeches available already? I'll be up on Thursday. Also, Walleyemaxx, check your messenger Inbox. Had a question for you. Thanks and will post as I get time this weekend.

Great opener Josh. You didn't miss much on Sunday. The monsoon put the fish down.

Smiley- D&B bait shop has leeches and she sells them by the pound as well. That's where I bought my leeches this weekend. Check your messenger. I replied to yours. Good luck fishing guys.
