With the warm spring we just had, many anglers were certain that the Walleye spawn would come early. Ice going off the lakes March 28th supported that idea.

But now it's April 18th and water temperatures seem to be holding steady around 40 degrees. Two days ago we received 4 inches of snow. (See Pictures on Facebook) Walleye, Pike and Perch like to spawn while the water is warming.

A nearby DNR egg stripping station reported a water temp of 37 degrees yesterday and their results confirm that the Walleyes are not yet ready to spawn

This all appears to be good news to opening week Walleye anglers.

We're full opening week (May 12-19), but we still have openings for week two (May 19-26).

And remember, at Oak Haven, your vacation will likely be interrupted by bald eagles, the sounds of loons (Minnesota's State Bird), busy chipmunks, baby ducklings and goslings and turtles too.
