Thread: Big st boat landing

    Default Big st boat landing

There is talk(and serious) about making the Big St. Germain boat landing a pay to launch type scenerio. Other than the person that has proposed this, I haven't heard or seen any public support.

This would be very tough on the businesses on the lake, the DNR will no longer manage or STOCK the lake, and cause problems with impatient people filling out tickets every day prior to launching.

Let's hear some comments and try to keep it clean and nice.

What? Isn't that a State maintained launch? If so, how could an individual propose to make it a pay for launch? I actually thought there was discussion of expanding the parking for the launch across the road? I realize this is serious, but I can't imagine it happening?? Although crazier stuff has happened. My guess is someone doesn't like the traffic on the lake and wants to try to limit it. Please keep us informed Rob.

    Default Pay to launch

Where would the collected money go? It couldn't possibly offset the money lost to all the businesses on the lake. The loss of the DNR monitoring sure won't help either. Lake Geneva in Walworth county did the same thing, restricting the lake to all pay launches. The DNR took fish out of the lake to recoup money spent over the years. Overall it sounds like a bad idea.

Why? There is no logical reason!

Does that also mean the DNR won't check boats, live wells and trailers for invasive species? That's a problem.

the supposed money that would be raised would go towards a wash down system of some sort and a paid attendant to watch the landing....a lose-lose in my mind.....keep spreading the word and note your thoughful comments here. IMO, there wouldn't be enough money raised to pay the person and also fund the wash down, and by all means regulate the fights at the landing for impatient fishermen, non-payers, etc....The landing and lake have been fine for lots and lots of years, therefore I think it should be left well alone.

I don't see the sense in having anything more than signage there.

This is the first I'm hearing of this. Seems pretty ridiculous to me. I use the launch a lot. Who would the launch attendant work for? DNR? The town of St Germain? The wash down system sounds bogus. I heard about expanding the parking lot---if there isn't money in the budget to do that, let's not expect the people to pay out of pocket for it.

This has to be one of the guys from the lake association considering this. Lake associations have the right to charge a fee on a public ramp. Got this off a different website. This would be scary!

WHEREAS, Wis. Stat. § 33.22(4m) provides that lake districts may undertake projects to enhance the recreational uses of a lake within its jurisdiction, including recreational boating facilities such as launching ramps, and

WHEREAS, Wis. Stat. § 30.77(3)( e) allows lake districts to charge boat operators reasonable fees for use of a public boat launching facility that the lake district owns or operates and for the lake districts costs for operating or maintaining a water safety patrol unit, and

I am a lake district member, but not in favor of this. So far I have only seen one member in favor of this...the guy preaching the change. Believe me guys this won't happen.......
